Keyboard Pioneers: Basics of Arduino and IOT

 On November 23, 2025, our team organized an online webinar titled “Basics of Arduino and IoT,” conducted via Google Meet. The event was led by our group, Keyboard Pioneers, with the goal of providing participants with a beginner-friendly introduction to Arduino programming and the Internet of Things (IoT).

The session featured Mr. Joshua B. Tumbocon, a Full Stack Developer from IDESS Interactive Technologies Inc., as the resource speaker. The webinar aimed to bridge theoretical knowledge and practical application, making it easier for participants to understand how hardware and software work together in modern systems.

The webinar began with the opening program and the introduction of the speaker. Mr. Tumbocon delivered his discussion using a PowerPoint presentation that covered Arduino fundamentals, microcontroller components, and key IoT concepts.

One of the most engaging parts of the session was the live demonstration using Tinkercad, an online simulation tool. The speaker guided participants in building simple Arduino circuits, such as LED control and sensor-based actions. This hands-on demonstration clearly showed how code interacts with hardware in real time.

Toward the end of the session, Mr. Tumbocon presented one of their old college projects. This gave participants a clearer vision of how basic Arduino knowledge can evolve into more advanced and creative embedded system applications.



Key Learnings

The webinar gave me a deeper understanding of how Arduino serves as a core component in many IoT systems.

I learned how sensors, actuators, and microcontrollers work together to create automated responses. The discussion also helped me understand important concepts such as input and output pins, data flow, and the role of the Arduino IDE in programming.

The live Tinkercad demonstration was the most impactful part of the session. Seeing the circuits function in real time made it easier to understand how code directly affects hardware behavior. It also helped me clearly distinguish between analog and digital signals, as well as understand the use of breadboards and basic electronic components.

Additionally, the presentation of the speaker’s old college project inspired me. It showed how simple beginner projects can grow into more complex systems through continuous learning and practice, making IoT feel more achievable and practical.



Practical Takeaways

After organizing and attending the webinar, I became more motivated to explore hands-on Arduino projects.

I plan to start experimenting using Tinkercad by building simple systems such as LED automation, motion sensors, and temperature monitoring. These small projects will help me build a strong foundation before moving on to more complex IoT applications.

With my background in programming, I also see the potential of combining Arduino with web development. I can explore projects that involve sending sensor data to web-based dashboards or creating simple monitoring systems. This will allow me to bridge hardware and software an essential skill in the IT field.



Positive Feedback

The “Basics of Arduino and IoT” webinar was informative, engaging, and well-executed. The speaker was able to clearly explain both theoretical and practical concepts, making the session easy to follow even for beginners.

The combination of PowerPoint presentation and live Tinkercad demonstration created a balanced and effective learning experience. As organizers, our team was able to manage the event smoothly, and the online setup worked well throughout the session.

The speaker’s approachability and clear explanations contributed to a beginner-friendly and interactive environment.



Suggestions for Improvement

Although the event was successful, there are a few areas that can be improved in future webinars.

One issue encountered was an audio problem during the opening prayer, which did not work despite prior testing. This highlighted the importance of conducting final technical checks on the day of the event.

For future activities, it would be beneficial to have a final rehearsal closer to the actual schedule to ensure all technical aspects function properly. Providing participants with pre-event materials, such as Tinkercad links or sample codes, could also improve engagement.
