ICT Project Management
On October 10, 2025, I attended an online information session titled “ICT Project Management”, organized by the DICT Regional Office X. The webinar ran from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM and introduced participants to the essential principles of managing ICT-related projects effectively. The discussion focused on the different stages of project management from initiation to closure and how proper planning, execution, and evaluation ensure project success.
One of the highlights of the session was the group activity called “Plan Your Own ICT Project,” where participants were asked to conceptualize and outline a potential ICT project. Some of the suggested ideas included an Online Barangay Information System, an LGU Mobile Service Request App, a Digital Library for Local Schools, and a Document Tracking or Help Desk System. This activity encouraged teamwork and creativity while allowing participants to apply what they learned in a real-world context.
Key Learnings
The session gave me a deeper understanding of what project management truly entails in the field of ICT. I realized that it’s not just about handling technical tasks it also involves strategic planning, identifying stakeholders, and managing time and resources effectively. I learned about the five major phases of project management: Initiation, Planning, Execution, Monitoring, and Closure. Understanding how each phase contributes to the overall flow of a project helped me appreciate the importance of structure and organization in achieving project goals.
What stood out to me the most was the discussion on project constraints and methodologies. The comparison between Waterfall, Agile, and Hybrid approaches showed that each method has its own strengths depending on the project’s scope and requirements. The examples shared, such as CCTV network setups and digital library systems, demonstrated how ICT can enhance efficiency and service delivery in local communities. This made me realize that strong project management is not only vital for technical success but also for creating meaningful social impact.
Practical Takeaways
The group activity gave me firsthand experience of how an ICT project begins from identifying a problem and setting goals to defining deliverables and considering possible constraints. I also learned that effective communication and teamwork are crucial to ensuring that every member contributes meaningfully toward the project’s success.
Moving forward, I plan to apply a more structured approach when handling academic or professional projects. This includes clearly documenting project requirements, setting measurable objectives, and tracking progress at every stage. These practices will help ensure that future ICT initiatives I work on are both organized and sustainable.
Positive Feedback
Overall, the ICT Project Management session was well-structured and engaging. The speaker explained complex concepts in a way that was easy to follow, and the inclusion of a hands-on group activity made the experience more interactive and practical. The sample project topics were realistic and community-centered, showing how ICT can directly contribute to public service improvement. The session effectively connected theory to real-world application, making it both educational and inspiring.
Suggestions for Improvement
While the group activity was meaningful, managing breakout rooms for a large audience was a bit challenging. For future sessions, it might be helpful to integrate more interactive tools like live polls, short quizzes, or collaborative whiteboards to keep participants engaged without needing to split into smaller groups. Despite that, everything else ran smoothly
the session was informative, well-paced, and provided valuable lessons that I can apply in future ICT-related projects.
