Cybercrime Prevention: Youth and Cybercrime Awareness and Prevention Seminar
On September 30, 2025, I attended a seminar titled “Cybercrime Prevention: Youth and Cybercrime Awareness and Prevention”, which focused on promoting digital responsibility among students. The event carried the theme “Understanding the Law, Protecting Our Rights, and Shaping a Responsible Generation” and was held from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The session aimed to help participants understand how technology and crime intersect, highlighting the importance of being cautious and ethical in the online world. The speaker discussed various forms of cybercrimes, the existing laws that protect individuals in cyberspace, and practical ways to prevent falling victim to online threats.
Key Learnings
This seminar gave me a deeper understanding of how cybercrime impacts both individuals and society. I learned that cybercrimes go beyond hacking and scams and they also include identity theft, online harassment, and data misuse. The explanation of how technology can be used to commit or prevent crimes opened my eyes to the importance of cybersecurity awareness in our daily lives.
The part that help with me most was the discussion on responsible social media use. It reminded me that every post, message, or comment we make leaves a digital footprint. This insight encouraged me to think carefully before sharing anything online. I also gained a better appreciation for the cybercrime laws that safeguard our rights and promote accountability in the digital space.
Practical Takeaways
After attending the seminar, I became more mindful of my online behavior. I now take extra care to protect my personal information by using strong passwords, avoiding suspicious links, and verifying the sources of what I read and share. I also plan to encourage my friends and family to practice the same level of caution and responsibility online. Understanding the laws and my rights as a digital citizen has empowered me to be more disciplined and proactive in promoting online safety.
Positive Feedback
The seminar was well-structured, informative, and engaging. The speaker explained complex topics in an approachable way, using real-life examples that helped students relate to the discussion. The visual aids and smooth program flow made the learning experience enjoyable and easy to follow. It was clear that the organizers put great effort into ensuring that participants walked away with meaningful knowledge about cybercrime prevention and responsible digital citizenship.
Suggestions for Improvement
For future seminars, I think adding interactive segments such as short quizzes, group discussions, or scenario-based activities would make the session even more engaging. Including real-life cybercrime cases in the Philippines could also help participants better understand how these issues affect people locally. Lastly, a brief Q&A session with cybersecurity or law enforcement experts would allow attendees to raise specific questions and gain deeper insights from professionals in the field.
